Karonda is an evergreen spiny shrub or a small tree grown up to 3 m height and suitable as a live hedge or fence plant around the orchard or as a pot planting.
Plants are hardy in nature and tolerate drought conditions easily and require less care. The fruits are a good source of iron and Vitamin-C. The unripe fruits are sour and astringent and can be used for pickles and chutney. They are antiscorbutic and useful for curing scurvy and Anaemia. Mature fruits have good pectin content and used in the preparation of jelly, jam, squash, syrup, chutney, and pickled.
